BOOK CLUB

The Go-Giver by Bob Burg and John David Mann

This book is the basis of my Pay it FWRD Newsletter. I have always focused on being a go-giver even before reading this book. It was great to read and hear a story that aligns so well with my thought process when it comes to sales, cross-functional work, leadership, culture, and more. The concept has always been around that it is better to give than to receive. The story goes through five different lessons to help you become a go-giver. It’s about giving thought, focus, time, and energy to others. The book wasn’t what helped me become one but helped me really share more of my story and make it more public of a theme to follow.I would recommend this book for anyone growing their business or working in sales. It really is a book that can be a nice read like a fiction book since it’s set up as a fable about a person trying to do their job well. It’s great for anyone that has to network in their business too as connections are very important.

Here are some of my nuggets:

  • Not a quid quo pro or a strategy to get ahead
  • The world treats you like the way you expect
  • Test and apply right away when you learn
  • People will do business with people they trust, like, and know
  • Your true word is what you give in value versus what you take in as payment
  • Your income is determined by how many people you serve or help
  • Sometimes you feel foolish and you look foolish but you do the thing anyway
  • You can be energetic and driven while being relaxed
  • Develop a network of people that know you, trust you, and like you; they might not buy from you but always have you in the back of their mind
  • Have a personal army of ambassadors
  • Givers attract hence why people that give are attractive
  • Most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself
  • Those that are go givers are powerful go getters
  • Success comes from habits
